Over the last few years, the lines between celebrity and influencer have blurred. With the development of technology, in particular, in the social media field, more and more vloggers are becoming ‘influencers’. Becoming noticed by companies due to their thousands (or millions) of followers, they are being asked to promote their products or services in return for exposure/money.

The internet is now used by over 4.33 billion people across the world. And because of this, social media influencers are taking over. From Zoella to Kayla Itsines and Cameron Dallas, there are 1000’s of vloggers globally that are now considered as social media influencers.

These social media influencers can earn millions by promoting businesses, through manufacturing their own products and through fan meet and greets. Driving engagement and setting cultural trends through their social media channels, people take notice and start to endorse them.

In particular, younger teens are becoming obsessed with the idea of a social media influencer, buying into the image that they promote and their products. Igniting an interest in whatever they are doing, they paint a ‘perfect picture’ of how amazing their everyday lives are. A form of escapism, there is something almost magical about seeing this seemingly idealistic life of someone that’s around the same age (or a little bit older) than you.


The Everyday Life of A Social Media Influencer

Not only do social media influencers promote products, but they also promote themselves. Every day or every other day, in order to retain a strong fanbase, they need to post high-quality content. From videos to photos and other posts, it’s a full-time job in a sense. When they become successful, they will often leave their current jobs to pursue it as a career.

Making the content varied (including CTA’s like ‘click here’) is undeniably important – as without it, their followers could get bored and look elsewhere. Think about it. A vlogger/influencer that’s only posting images of their home life could become dull over time. So they want to mix it up by regularly traveling (using sponsor/promotion money to fund such getaways), capture images of their food or do extraordinary activities that interests their fanbase.


The Rapid Increase in Influencer Marketing

As mentioned above, brands are rapidly noticing the impact that social media influencers have. And because of this, they are quickly increasing their marketing budgets so that they can allow for influencers to target their audiences.

A billion-dollar market, the influential changes that social media personalities are having on the world is clear. Breaking through the noise that comes with traditional advertising, it’s a modern way of spreading a brand’s message in a more natural way.

A social media influencer’s fan believes them because of the more genuine way that they endorse products. Reaching out to a larger audience across their platforms, their followers are incredibly loyal and trusting. No matter what the product, a social media influencer can sell it – especially when their fanbase has expanded to include millions of adolescents.
