The First Steps To Standing Up From Rock Bottom

The First Steps To Standing Up From Rock Bottom

Rock bottom can be a place that many visit. Does this mean you are a lesser person, without potential, without the ability to heal, without hope? Not at all. You might have heard of J.K Rowling, famous author of the Harry Potter series. When she was writing the first Harry Potter novel, her breakout hit, she was a struggling single mother. She was on welfare. She couldn’t pay to heat the home so she used to sit with her daughter in cafe’s, buying  the cheapest coffee so they wouldn’t throw her out and writing the story on her beat-up laptop. She later stated: “Rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.”

The first steps to standing up from rock bottom can be the hardest. They are also the most important, and the most necessary. This goes for if you have an addiction, are trying to separate yourself from your past, or have just realized you have a problem that desperately needs a resolution.

For that, and more, let us see how you could assist yourself:

Do What You Can

It can often be that taking that minor step is the most important. For example, consider someone with deep agoraphobia. Is leaving the house to speak to a Doctor as impressive as someone free climbing a cliff edge they have mastered? Perhaps not. But was the level of bravery comparable? After all, by definition those who have the most courage are those who exercise it with only fear in their midst. This means that whatever situation you are in, you should never discount your personal battles, nor the courage it takes to overcome them. It might simply be admitting you have a problem is the best thing you could do for yourself.

Find The Help You Need

Do not ignore the fact that you might need true help. For example, heading to the Lake Wellness Center to work on addictive tendencies is tenfold more healthy than simply trying to go it alone, never admitting that you have a problem but trying to tackle it nonetheless. Remember, habitual processes can often be stronger than our rational personalities, and they take time to learn and replicate. It is no great failing to need a little expert help, a little guidance, or simply a new environment to uncover your potential.

Keep Trying

Rarely do people quit a bad habit cold turkey, or become the person they want to simply because they decide it. It takes time. It also takes failure. As long as you are making a real effort to move forward and to learn anew, you will be bettering yourself. For example, even an obese person who runs around the track in a very light jog, or a slightly faster walk, is always lapping everyone on the couch. This is the essence of trying again.

With this advice, we hope you can better start up from rock bottom, and move towards your main intended goals.
