Perth: The Pearl That Became A Swan

Perth: The Pearl That Became A Swan
Kings Park and Botanic Garden in Perth, Australia
Western Australia's largest city, Perth is one of the best coastal cities in the world. That might seem unfair to some because the land of Aus’ has so many coastal cities to choose from that you should almost exclude Australia to be fair. You have to admit it, Perth is probably the best example of a modern Western coastal paradise. Aptly named, the Swan River flows from the south-west of the city up towards the north-east in a swooning motion. It also has a large population of over 2 million people. The road network is perhaps the most developed in the entire nation. It's also the top dog when it comes to skylines in Australia because the business and trade district is teething with high-rise buildings that all have their own shape, size and character. But since you’re here for more pleasure than business, let’s take a look at why Perth can be described as a pearl.

Grandma style

As you would imagine in a metropolitan haven, Perth has a lot of international cuisine. If you’re planning on coming to Perth WA, you should book a car and drive to Theo & Co. This is one of the coolest places to visit in the city because they make classic deep pan style grandma pizza that originates all the way from Scicily. Theo Kalogeracos is a master pizza chef and has won many awards for pizzas that he has created himself. Perhaps the best is the Spicy Granny, made with spicy salami, Australian prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes and drizzled with a chilli infused oil. Of course this is done in the classic rectangle pan for an authentic grandma pizza style shape.

Green and blue

Do you have to go to the beach just because you’re in a coastal city? Yes, without a doubt. Cottesloe Beach has amazing green and blue waters that come straight from the Indian Ocean. The reason why there is a slight green mixture is because the coast is so rich with natural vegetation, seaweed and plenty of exotic water plants. These waters are almost always calm, which allows for the heat from the sun to sink in. Swimming in the lukewarm waters of Perth is something you have to experience once in your life. The beach is made up of white sand. No literally, it's white sand. This means it's one of the softest finest sandy beaches on this side of the planet.

Welcoming a swan

Elizabeth Quay is a landmark in the city and one that is a marvel of modern design. It's a series of metal wings that make up a swan. It's an artistic beacon for the Swan River and it's hosts many events. There are food and art festivals that come by every year. It was named after Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for her Diamond Jubilee.

Perth is a pearl that swept up on the south-westerly coast and became a swan. It's one of the most beautiful coastal cities anywhere in the world. You should take the time to enjoy the restaurants, swim in the warm waters and head down to the festival area to really get the most out of your trip.
