3 Ways to Save an Extra 15 Minutes Throughout Your Day

With these time-saving tips, you'll be calmer and more efficient during the day.

It’s no surprise that the older we get, the busier we become. You’re probably reading this article right now while also thinking about all of the things you need to get done today. And this week. And maybe even this month. If you’re anything like me, a busy schedule may make you feel stressed and uneasy, as if you’re constantly forgetting to do something.

Do you have a few minutes? I’d like to share some of my daily hacks that help me complete my to-do list, while also keeping me sane.

Morning Meditations

From the moment I open my eyes, I think about all of the things I need to do that day. And before I know it, I’m stressed before I've even sat up. Although it may seem easier to jump out of bed and get going, starting your morning with five minutes of meditation can be extremely beneficial, and can even impact the rest of your day. Numerous studies have suggested that beginning your day in a calm, relaxed state can help you be less bothered by the little frustrations and reduce overall stress and anxiety, thus saving you time in the long run.

Afternoon Pick-Me-Ups

When it comes to doing chores or working on an assignment, most people want to “just get it done” as quickly as possible so they can cross it off the list. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always had the same mindset, but planning out short breaks can actually help you be more productive. According to research from DeskTime.com, the top 10% of productive workers all worked an average of 52 minutes before taking a 17 minute break. Taking short breaks throughout the day can you help you stay focused and be more efficient while also carving out some time to give your brain a break.

Evening Pack Prep

Have you ever sat down at your desk in the morning and thought, “Do I have my house keys?” Or planned to go to the gym after work and realized you forgot to pack a sports bra, so now you can’t even take that spin class that you paid $35 for? Of course you have—we’re all human. This last hack may seem wildly obvious, but packing your bag the night before is instrumental in having a smooth day and get you out the door faster. It may even help to have a daily packing list so you’re confident you have everything you need and don't lose time rummaging through your bag checking last minute. Yes, I know. This is the absolute last thing you want to do when you get home from a long, busy day, but make the effort—it will eventually become a habit.

Next time you take a look at your packed calendar and feel like your head is going to fall off your body, just take a deep breath and think about how to use your time wisely–taking the time to prepare for your day, mentally and physically, ends up saving you minutes later on. And if you need a little extra motivation, remember, “You can do anything, but not everything.”
